Electric Utility Consultants, Inc. presents:
Biomass Technology and Economics
November 9, 2006 :: 1:00 - 3:00 PM EST :: Online

OVERVIEW
Biomass is any material of recent organic origin and is the largest source of renewable energy in the United States. Examples of biomass include switchgrass, forest harvest residue, agricultural residue, animal wastes and fermented liquids like those pressed from corn or sugar cane. Developed biopower technologies include direct combustion, co-firing, gasification, landfill gas and anaerobic digestion. Biomass is becoming a cost effective supplement to fossil power generation for electricity and transportation fuels. This is opening new markets and driving development of new technology to convert biomass to liquid fuel or electricity. Large utilities are considering co-firing with biomass as a means to cut fuel costs and reduce certain emissions. Some small users are firing strictly with biomass or generating biogas to power engines and turbines. Liquid fuels are being used to power utility fleets, industrial processes and private automobiles. Biomass Technology and Economics will provide the audience with a succinct overview or bioenergy technology, incentives for development and economic feasibility of each.
